Osaka is a major Japanese city, and staying connected here won’t be much of a problem. For one, your hotel will most likely provide Wi-Fi services in your own room. Restaurants and cafes also have their own Wi-Fi you can access, just ask the staff.
However, if you have more than a passing need to stay connected, we suggest you get a more dedicated connection. In Japan, the two usual options are Pocket Wi-Fi or a Local Sim.
Pocket Wi-Fi Rental
It’s fairly easy to stay connected in Osaka. Wi-fi rental kiosks can be found at Kansai Airport’s Arrival Area. You’ll need to shell out up to JPY 900 per day to stay connected. Take note that portable wi-fi is very much in demand, and it may be hard for you to purchase directly, especially if you’re arriving late afternoon or evening. Also, take into account that some booths will only transact using a credit card.
Reserving online via Klook eliminates this hassle. You can reserve a device for around JPY 800 per day for unlimited 4G access. This is comparatively cheaper than the pocket wi-fi devices you’ll find in the airport.
One advantage of having a portable wi-fi is that you can connect multiple devices. If you’re in a group, you can split the cost between you and your mates.
When you make the reservation online, you can pick up the device at the airport, with no deposit needed.
Japan Local Sim
You can also opt for a 4G Data Sim. This usually comes in two options: unlimited 4G data for 8 days (around ¥3360) and 3GB data for 8 days (around ¥2160). If you consume a lot of data, the unlimited plan will suit you best. Like the pocket wi-fi, you can pick up your SIM once you arrive at Kansai Airport.
