Fukuoka is one of the seven prefectures of Kyushu region and the capital of Fukuoka Prefecture. It is a probable gateway to Kyushu Island and its many attractions. It has an efficient transport system that allows you to go in any direction across the country. It is a possible jump-off point to the island’s mountains and historical attractions.
For foodies, it is a dream destination because of the ramen popularized by the restaurant Ichiran. Fukuoka is hailed as the ramen capital of the world. If you love Tonkotsu ramen (pork-bone braised broth), you’ll enjoy staying in Fukuoka because there are literally dozens of ramen shops scattered throughout the city.
If you’ve been to Tokyo or Osaka, you’ll find Fukuoka a bit more relaxed and less stressful. This makes it easier for first-time travelers or even seasoned ones to enjoy their vacation at a more comfortable pace.
Fukuoka Travel
The present-day Fukuoka City used to be two separate cities – Hakata and Fukuoka. The cities eventually became the two wards, with Fukuoka being renamed ‘Tenjin’, making up the city center. Most of the attractions are found here. Hakata Station and Fukuoka Airport are found in Hakata, while budget hotels and shopping establishments are located in Tenjin. As with any other Japanese city, Fukuoka is safe for tourists and locals alike.
Food is an important part of a city’s heart and soul; Fukuoka is no exception. If you don’t plan on exploring the metropolis, you’ll have a number of options to eat till your heart’s content. For foodies, it is a dream destination because of the ramen popularized by the restaurant Ichiran. Other than Ichiran, there are many restaurants that serve delicious ramen. Some must-tries during your food tripping include tonkotsu ramen, mizutaki, and motsunabe. Visit the many food stalls (also known as yatai) scattered all over the urban jungle to kick-start your gastronomic adventure.
If you’re sightseeing within the city, three days would be enough to cover famous spots. If you’re on a food trip, you might want to extend your stay because it is impossible to try the popular food places in Fukuoka in just three days. If you want to go to neighboring cities like Kitakyushu, Yanagawa or Nagasaki, you might have to add a few days more.
