Fukuoka is a probable gateway to Kyushu Island and its many attractions; the former is much like any other big city in Japan. It has an efficient transport system that allows you to go in any direction across the country. It is a possible jump-off point to the island’s mountains and historical attractions. For foodies, it is a dream destination because of the ramen popularized by the restaurant Ichiran.
Food is an important part of a city’s heart and soul; Fukuoka is no exception. If you don’t plan on exploring the metropolis, you’ll have a number of options to eat till your heart’s content. There are many restaurants other than Ichiran that serve delicious ramen. Some must-tries during your food tripping include tonkotsu ramen, mizutaki, and motsunabe. Visit the many food stalls (also known as yatai) scattered all over the urban jungle to kick-start your gastronomic adventure.
If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic for a time you were never born in, a trip to the Fukuoka Castle Ruins is a nice addition to your itinerary. As you explore the complex, you’ll have to use your imagination to reconstruct the towering and imposing castle piece by piece. The ruined, ancient walls and gates are some of the remnants of its former glory. Take a break from the chaos ensuing in the city by taking a leisurely stroll around Ohori Park. You’ll see locals jogging, playing with their kids, reading a book or just letting time pass them by.
